  • Your body will go through many wonderful physiological and hormonal changes during your pregnancy to prepare for the birth. As awesome as these changes are they can have their downside. Pelvic girdle pain, pubic symphysis dysfunction and pain, back pain, sacro-iliac joint dysfunction, neck tension, headaches and sleep problems can be brought on by your body evolving into a unique 'birthing machine'. Chiropractors at the Hastings Chiropractic Clinic are trained to help you reduce the discomfort that these temporary changes can have on your body and help optimise your spine and pelvic joints for the birth.

  • Chiropractic care for your advancing years may provide an essential cornerstone as it can assist in improving overall function, health and quality of life. By providing a protective role in preserving functional ability you can benefit from activity and independence for longer.

Using gentle mobilising techniques, exercises, balance programmes and postural advice, your Chiropractor can help to alleviate discomfort and stiffness associated with joints in the neck, back and limbs. Increasing range of motion in your joints will give you better mobility and help improve balance, dizziness and posture. The use of gentle soft tissue techniques and Western Acupuncture (Dry Needling) can reduce muscle stiffness and improve blood flow to affected areas and help reduce inflammation. Home exercise programmes designed for your challenges will help to keep you involved in your own outcome and healthy ageing.

  • Probably a term that you have never heard of before especially if you are new to Chiropractic!

Your Chiropractor's primary aim will be to discover and then unlock pathways to optimise your health and increase your vitality.

Abnormal movement of your spinal segments (vertebrae) can be caused by emotional, chemical or physical stress. This abnormal spinal movement can interfere with the messages between the brain and the body. The brain can no longer properly control spinal movement or protect the spine. This can effect physical function and overall health and may lead to injuries. Chiropractic adjustments promote normal movement of the spine and align you with your most natural and healthy state.

Our Techniques

We use a range of different techniques to ensure we cater for everyones needs. These include traditional dynamic manipulation, light force techniques, activator instruments, table assisted drop techniques, extremity adjusting, Western Acupuncture (Dry Needling), deep tissue mobilisation, muscular stretching and release and lifestyle advice.

  • Classic Manipulations also known as ‘adjustments’ are extremely safe and effective techniques. Specific, fast impulses by hand delivered to an area of the body that is not moving at it’s optimum. The 'pop' sound is a pressure change within the joint that often accompanies the release.

  • These techniques are more subtle movements, pressure points combined with breath work to release tension stored in the body and restore awareness and connection with various parts of the spine, spinal cord and body.

  • Activator tools assist in delivering a controlled and specific impulse to the spine to restore effective motion and nerve supply. This can be felt as a 'light tap' actively stimulating the joint and surrounding nerves. Vibration Massage tools assist in promoting blood flow to compromised muscles, encourage lymphatic drainage, increase muscle flexibility, increase joint mobility and promote muscle recovery.

  • A great option for people seeking Chiropractic care without the 'click'. Our state-of-the-art Chiropractic tables have mechanical 'drop' pieces that allows your Chiropractor to introduce a quick and fairly light 'thrust' to an area of the spine. The short 1-2cm drop allows for some momentum with a sudden stop to help affect the adjustment. The tables make a ‘bang’ sound but there are no ‘clicks’ from the joints. They may look and sound a little intimidating, but it is a very gentle and effective technique.

  • Hastings Chiropractic Clinic Chiropractors have completed extra training in the other joints of the body (eg. ankles, wrists, knees and hips). We use various techniques to help correct neuro-mechanical dysfunction in these extremity areas. The principles are the same as spinal techniques in that we are restoring effective motion and improving body-brain neural feedback.

  • In addition to restoring seamless spinal and nervous system function, as part of your treatment plan we will often advise on postural retraining, basic nutrition, supplementation, ergonomics (work set up), stretching and other beneficial lifestyle changes.

  • An assisted stretch is a physical movement done with the help of your Chiropractor to promote increased joint and muscle flexibility, improve your range of motion and decrease pain, stiffness and stress.

Techniques we use are: Static Stretching, Active Stretching, Assisted Stretching, PNF Stretching, Isometric Stretching, Dynamic Stretching, Active Isolated Stretching, Resistance, and Loaded Stretching.

  • Dry Needling (aka Western Acupuncture) is a Western adaptation of traditional acupuncture. It is used to reduce pain in the muscles and ligaments of the spine and also peripheral joints such as the shoulder, knee, elbow and ankle. Single use, ultra-fine needles are inserted into areas of knotted muscle to stimulate tissue. It is thought that this stimulation changes the way the brain and muscles talk to each other to let your system return to a more normal movement pattern. You may experience mild sensations when being needled but a slight ache and a muscle twitch when a needle is inserted is considered to be a good sign. After treatment a pleasant feeling of relaxation can be experienced.

The Three Stages of Care

At first visits may be frequent, depending upon the severity of your condition. The primary focus is to reduce or eliminate your most obvious symptoms.

Initial Care

The severity of your complaint determines the frequency of your visits. These are commonly twice weekly or can be more often for those in an acute phase of pain. Our intial focus is to reduce or eliminate your most troubling symptoms.

Stabilisation Care

As your symptoms are improving and your life is returning to normal our plan will be to promote and maintain spinal function in order for your body to complete its healing. Brain and nervous system function are coordinated to create lasting changes and promote optimal control and movement of the spine.

Wellness Care

With your maximum restoration of spinal function, many of our patients enjoy regular chiropractic checks. This type of preventive or wellness care can help maintain your optimal function, performance and vitality.
